How much does a wedding DJ cost in Australia?
Today I’m going to try give an answer to some of your questions about wedding DJ costs including the average costs of a wedding DJ in various parts of Australia as well as a lot of costs that go into DJing for a wedding.
Let’s dive in.

Average Cost of A Wedding DJ in Australia.
Disclaimer: The prices mentioned below do not apply to Moonlight Entertainment – you should always ask for and checkout our quotes!
Most wedding DJs charge between $1000 to $1500 for a 5-6 hour wedding reception in Capital cities here in Australia.
This should include lighting, speakers, DJ table, song requests, a wireless microphone, a professional DJ, and set up/pack down. Travel fees may apply.
Regional Australia does make for slightly better pricing to hire a DJ, but beware being too budget conscious – You get what you pay for!
Many high-quality wedding DJs are now charging around $2000 to $3500 and this can reach upwards of $5000! Clients are usually attracted to their online presence, word-of-mouth recommendations, experience, videos and Google reviews.
Either way, there is no fixed fee for a wedding DJ.
Things to consider
Always check your quote for hidden fees (e.g. GST and travel).
Supply and demand can influence the price. Saturdays are THE wedding day so expect to pay more than a mid week wedding.
Many events are located outside of the main towns, so you might have to pay a travel fee or even accommodation.
The better DJs also will usually offer more online content (e.g. videos, photos, Google reviews, etc). This offers peace of mind. It can be quite nerve-racking if your DJ doesn’t have any suitable online content. What do they sound like? What do they look like? What type of equipment do they have?
It takes many years of experience to become a great wedding DJ and MC. This should be priced accordingly as once a DJ is booked, they cannot offer their services elsewhere.

How much do DJs cost per hour? (Wedding DJ Cost)
Most DJ’s we know cost their time out at $100-$150 per hour (plus GST). It is a pretty standard hourly rate for a DJ in Australia for the time spent actually playing. This can vary depending on experience, skills and availability. What you also need to take into consideration though on top of the hourly rate, are the hidden costs of Preparation, Load in, Pack up and Load Out, Equipment purchase and Maintenance, Travel, Taxes, Insurance, Website management, Time spent in Consultation with clients and Quote costs…
Oh.. Quote costs and booking agencies.. some DJ booking “agencies” like Crowd Pleaser charge as much as 10% of the DJ fee for the booking – others, like Bark, charge between $25-45.00 just for the lead!

How much does a DJ cost for 5 hours?
As mentioned earlier, most DJs charge between $1000 to $1500 for a 5-hour performance. But this can vary depending on the type of gig, experience, skill, demand, experience, etc.
Prices can dip below $500. But be careful – You once again get only what you pay for!
